I'm part of the 'Harry Potter Generation": I was in about second or third grade when the first ones came out, and got the last one at the midnight release when I was about 15. I watched one of the movies on a whim a while ago, and enjoyed it so much! I hadn't read the books in so many years, so I'm now on a reread crusade. I couldn't stop laughing and grinning at the earlier ones xD The first through third books really are charming and delightful. I'm on Order of the Phoenix now, and really remember that the series lost something when they decided to get the 'plot' going. I think some of the whimsical feeling was lost, and the books are no longer as escapist as they were. Plus Harry is a moody git.
Well...
What are your favorite and least favorite things in the books? Which characters do you like and dislike? What's your favorite memory that has to do with the series? Was the ending satisfying? Any pairings you are happy with, or others you would prefer? Which character would you want to be?
As for me...
I love how accessible her writing is. It's easy to imagine what Rowling is talking about. The characters are realistic and funny. I love the magic and every peculiarity of the wizarding world. I can read the books for hours- she doesn't drag along but keeps at a nice pace. I didn't like the direction she took in the later books, 4-7. I mean, sure Harry is becoming an adult, but his character changed a little too much. I guess they were a letdown compared to the brilliance of the earlier books. My favorite would have to be Hermione, and later Snape. I knew Snape was good xD Surprisingly, as I read them again, I realized that out of all the kids/teenage wizards Harry is not my favorite. My favorite Harry Potter memory is a birthday I had with a Potter theme. My parents dressed up, we brought mums (Herbology class: What's your mum saying? 'Clean your room!'), there was a plastic cauldron of dry ice for Potions, we played Quidditch by holding onto mops and brooms and throwing around balls (harder than it sounds!).
I thought the ending was fitting, but not satisfying because of the absence of certain people.
I never really liked Ginny, and was secretly rooting for Harry and Luna ;D Ron and Hermione was... meh (although it was very sweet when she seized him for a first kiss). I can't remember if Krum appears again after the fifth book, but I was smitten with him and Hermione during the ball in Goblet of Fire. That being said, I would want to be Hermoine, but I'm not certain I could but up with all the crap from Harry and Ron. They are very rude to her at times. Secondly then, I would be Luna xD She's a really great character.
How about you guys?
