A new character name...the Nephauree. Perhaps the same one that attacked at the end of the third book?
"Going back, I have a new character’s name from Abarat that I want to share with you: Preyer Kry. He is the representative on Earth of the Nephauree. I shouldn’t say ‘on Earth’, I mean in our - "
Revelations : " - dimension?"
Clive : "Right – which is both Abaratian and terrestrial. Although... you say it’s another dimension... I’m not sure that it is. You know, the ships that ply their trade between the Hereafter? It’s like there’s a door that we don’t quite see that they are able to access. But Preyer Kry he is, oh boy, a villain – yes. A new level of villainy."

Other key points:
Abarat IV has a set deadline. All characters should get their stories addressed. The girls who were mean to Candy in the first book will make an appearance while Clive is connecting the stories of Chickentown and the Abarat. The reason why Candy is in the mysterious new place won't be explained until the Fifth book. The reason Gazza and Candy fell madly in love so quickly will be explained. "Diamanda is related to someone that we don’t connect. Christopher Carrion is going to have power over some things we don’t connect" The Zael Maz'yre are an evil order of women that are behind Mater Motley's power, but Mater Motley is going to have to suffer the consequences from demanding so much from them.
Interesting eh?? I'm also not surprised to see a bunch of new evils popping up. But is also sounds like Christopher will be getting stronger--possibly for a really epic battle in the fourth or fifth books?

Loved this interview. I was also curious about Clive's health, so it was informative on both levels!

A series of tweets by CB: "A character called Preyer Kry ,who has been waiting in the wings of ABARAT until the fourth volume has just kicked this author very hard..and once he had my attention made a full list of THE SINS OF PREYER KRY.I am now going to sit and give thanks to the deity who made Kry."
Sounds like Preyer Kry is going to be eevil. With two E's.

Apparently the title has changed, and Clive is killing someone! D:
Tweet July 14: Clive Barker @realclivebarker Today -meaning the writing day that began sixteen hours ago- is a difficult day. Somebody in ABARAT IV : THE PRICE OF DREAMS must die.

Ooh! I think I like the new title much better. I wonder who diessss!?!? I can see him wanting to do a major character after his faked Malingo death.

Thank you so much for the updates everyone. Does anyone want to make a new thread reflecting the book's title change and insert the spoilers tag?

Some great stuff here. What seems to have been everyone's biggest complaint about book three - Gazza - is promised to have an actual, in-universe explanation, along with promises that Clive will address every character and every loose thread (Book 3 seemed kind of muddled so this matters a lot), of a long book and a hopefully very satisfying conclusion on a cosmic scale. I kind of like the old titles for the books better than the new ones - though Until The End Of Time is more original than The Eternal, I guess. Interesting how now book four is the dark one and not book three.

"The guardian of Kry is a wounded Golden Man called Hathnot. I painted him a decade ago and he's been waiting in the shadows for his moment." Facebook Updates By Clive Barker, 19 January 2013 For some reason on Revelations they neglected to show us the actual panting of Hathnot, which is on the website: www.clivebarker.info/warrior.html (not posting the actual image in case you count that as spoilers) Wounded indeed. The connection between Kry being some sort of "true magic" (as if what exactly magic is in Abarat isn't a muddled enough concept) and Preyer Kry being a great evil character is very interesting. Personally I think Clive's said enough about the fourth (and probably also fifth) books and I'd rather not learn anything else...

I changed the title of the thread so that we don't have to start a whole new one just for info about this book. A general "Latest News" topic was also started, which will be very useful, because it seems CB still has lots going on with Abarat! But, to repeat stuff, he's finished his first draft of Book IV!
From his facebook page for April/May 2013: "I've started one of my favourite parts of creating each of the ABARAT books. "The structure of this book is now fixed. It's taken thirteen months, starting immediately after I came out of hospital and working every day since to finish this draft, but it's done. "Now I'm about to re-draft the 130,000 [words] I've written in the last thirteen months, steadily polishing it, word by word, phrase by phrase, idea by idea. "And as I go I get to have fun designing the various beasts and beings, skies, cities and magical sights that did not yet already exist in the oil paintings I have painted for use in these last two books. "It would be much more convenient, of course, if my imagination had been prophetic enough to provide me with exactly what I needed, without redundancies. But it never works that way. Often a design I painted with a certain character in mind simply fails to fit the tale I am now telling. So I have to create something new. "It's not the end of the world. Ha! No, it truly isn't. "It's the continuing construction of a new one, in words and paint. "I still have two more drafts and forty oil paintings to go before the fourth book of ABARAT is delivered. "But I promise you I will keep a diary of entries like this as I go, so that henceforth you can follow the road I'm taking to bring ABARAT IV: THE PRICE OF DREAMS, home."
And from his Facebook page from 2 May 2013: "Abarat IV: The Price of Dreams is almost finished."

Any way someone could post (or if they are already posted let me know where) full plot summaries of the first three books? I would love to re-read all of the books but I have way too many books to read for class before the release of the fourth book. I'm not sure that wiki is the best for plot summaries.

You will have plenty of time before the fourth book comes out hahaha But I probably could write out a good plot summary one of these days. If I do I'll link it here

I'm painting a new image of Christopher Carrion for the fourth volume of the ABARAT quintet. No character I have ever written about has such ambiguity in his nature. And that makes him fascinating to me. Very soon I have to decide how his story will end, especially in relation to Candy, the heroine of the narrative. Can these two characters find some way to express the love they bear one another? I get a lot of mail from readers who would like to see Candy and Christopher somehow end up together. It's an interesting challenge,to make that happen believably... I'm working on it. I'll run some images of Christopher as I try to solve the problem of how to paint him in his constantly transforming state. Wait, is that a contradiction? Can a state, which I take to be fixed, be constantly transforming? Back to work.Another hour of painting in the comforting silence of this late December night.Sleep well my friends. My love to you all.Clive xxx
