Hi there, I'm Ephie. (: I'm 18, female, currently living in Australia (but not for much longer!!). I first read Abarat when I was maybe 13 and I fell in love, then forgot it for a bit....rediscovered it....forgot it...then I heard that the 3rd book was FINALLY out so I re-read everything and fell head over heels again. I tend not to form such emotional attachments with books...I can only think of a few other instances where I've gotten both weepy and excited due to a book- Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War and Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame come to mind. So I decided to join this community, since after reading the third book, I can't seem to get over it. Partially because I was rather disappointed in Absolute Midnight. ;~; Feel the need to talk about it endlessly.
Favourite character is Christopher Carrion...of course. The level of my obsession at this point is probably unhealthy. xD Other interests include history (mostly Ancient Greek), coffee, art (I have some drawings that I may post up :3), music and writing (I mostly do fantasy).
Another note which I may elaborate upon later: Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame reminds me a lot of Carrion, now that I think of it.

Yay another person obsessed with Carrion! I too was dissapointed with Absolute Midnight. I find it interesting you like ancient greek history. Why do you like it?

Ahh I wished I lived somewhere cool like Australia. I think we were all a little disappointed, but I also think that's because we had so much time to get our own ideas of how it would be. We doomed ourselves ahhaha.
But it's true...I can't think of many books I've been incredibly excited to obtain. I think this is the only book that I've dreamt about reading before it was published.
I'd love to see anything you've drawn or written! I hope you decide to post something

carrionsprincess- I was simply gonna post a thing about my complaints, but I might leave it. My anger has faded significantly since I allowed myself to move onto other books. : P @malingomalingo- The process of falling in love with history is a long story for me, but I suppose I enjoy the analysis required to study it seriously, as well as the tales that are told. I seem to feel an affinity towards the ancient Greeks, I'm not sure why to be honest. I enjoyed Greek mythology when I was young but it turns out the history of Greece is even more interesting. :3 requiax- Australia isn't that cool to be honest, it's like America #2, with some differences. I'm in Perth, which is in the middle of nowhere and full of boring, self-obsessed and materialistic people. But yeah, nice plants and birds and stuff. xD And yes, we definitely doomed ourselves by expecting too much. I was so excited when I saw that promo where Carrion was still alive, I thought that he would feature more than he did. Even so, I was mostly just angry that the book seemed too hurried, the writing was unclear. It felt like it hadn't really even been edited- there were mistakes (ie. Carrion originally says that the place he built for Boa was on the Isle of the Black Egg rather than Huffaker) and it felt too slapdash, which seems like such nonsense for a book that apparently took so long to write. ): I will post things, I've just been stuck in inertia at the moment, I'm sure I'll get there in time.
