I didn't expect Carrion to look anything like that, or talk like that. But really good trailer. Just wish that the UK edition came out earlier than the US one.

I'm guessing Carrion didn't live up to people's expectations in the trailer because of their budget. I'm guessing if they had more funds and possibly time they could have made a more convincing Carrion. Also ... how the reader sees/hears Carrion could be very different then how he is in Barker's head.

Exactly, and if Harper Collins made that trailer (I doubt it though) they didn't put that much effort and time into it. There is a possibly outcome that Clive and his friends made it (because of all the trouble going on between Clive and Harper). Then I would understand all the money problems. But, it still makes me excited for the book. Roll on Abarat: Absolute Midnight!! ;D

I know I'm super late commenting on this, haha, but I'm so happy that he played out to the Carrion fans by making him the subject of the preview. I pretty much knew that he wouldn't kill off one of the very center characters less than half-way through the series, but for the people who may have conceded to the possibility that Carrion had indeed died, it probably was a bit TOO much of a spoiler.
I loved the art direction, though, and the fact that Carrion was painted up just like one of Clive's oil paintings that are a large part of what makes the series so magical. So I really appreciated that, and I personally loved that Carrion was more... well... humanized, so to speak, but I'm probably just being selfish that way, I always like to imagine him looking human at one point or another in his life. And while I appreciated the voice they gave him, since Carrion is certainly an intimidating character, I always imagined his voice being very sophisticated and smooth, rather like Scar from The Lion King, actually, haha! And I still read with that voice in mind. But for the purpose of bringing Carrion to life, I enjoyed it all, from the makeup to the voice. Not gonna lie, I squealed like a fangirl.
And I was SO happy that he called out to Candy instead of Boa. But that's just the CandyxCarrion fan in me. Plus, I never really dug Boa's whole pretty, perfect princess archetype. All-in-all, I loved the preview, and was grateful for it.
