I want to know what the overall consensus is on this detail.
Feel free to argue your reasoning.

Initially, I thought that he was dead. That the villainous torch had been passed to another character - Mater Motley or Rojo Pixlar, perhaps. After all, death is the only fitting end for Carrion. If he's evil, then the hero or heroine is required to kill him for the end of the plot, you know? To live requires some sort of redemption, and even if he were redeemed to some degree, can you actually imagine Carrion settling down and living a mundane, pleasant life? Buying a house in Tazmagor perhaps and becoming a fisherman? No. But then I realized that doesn't mean he has to die NOW. He could very well be alive at this point and die in the future. So now I'm saying he is definitely alive. Mostly because Clive frequently mentions redemption in his interviews regarding Abarat, and I think Carrion deserves some redemption more than anyone else. Redemption theoretically requires being alive doesn't it? And then there's the cliche that if there's no body to be found, the character is not actually dead. Er... but I guess there's nothing keeping Clive from saying in the third book that the body was disposed of in some way. -shrugs- And I think that Carrion being dead would require Letheo being dead, too (because wasn't he in the house with Candy and Carrion when she flooded it?). And I can't imagine that Barker would create a character like Letheo just to die, you know? Also, Clive said in one interview that Carrion was a personification of his own loneliness and sorrows. I don't believe Clive would kill himself off in such an un-glamorous way, you know?

I was originally VERY set on Carrion being dead, because I didn't think he was going to end up as the main villain, but, judging from what we've heard about this trailer for Absolute Midnight, it seems pretty obvious to me that he didn't.
P.S. Can we please somehow get a spoiler tag button on this website or something? I've tried spoiler codes and they don't work...

Logan:
What do you mean by a spoiler button? Please let me know and I will try my best. Thanks

Well, I mean a button that would enable us to put spoiler tags in our posts in order to hide spoilery text instead of having to not type it at all. I thought, at first, that I could just put around the words and that that would work, but it didn't, so I searched around and found that it seems like it's possible to add a "spoiler tag" button to the "Add Tags" buttons. Of course, I can't do this, but I assume an admin would be able to.

I've seen spoiler links on other forums. You click them and then you can see the text. It would be useful so I could gush more openly about the companion book Originally I thought he was dead too, but that was because I hadn't read the first book in a long time. After joining this forum I reread the first book, and then i was like, oh. He's way too important. He's way too interesting a character to just die. And then CB has practically confirmed it. *no spoilers*
