Anyone read Weaveworld? While I still don't think it tops Abarat or The Thief of Always, I think this is probably so far my favorite of his "adult" books.

I thinks it's brilliant. His characters are always very intruiging, and his writing style is very prominent in weaveworld.

I just finished it last night, and although it felt a little disjointed, I really enjoyed it. Immacolata now ranks highly on the list of my favorite antagonists =)

What is weaveworld about? Sorry, that might be a bit of a hard question to answer... doesn't sound like a straight forward book.

It is kind of a hard question XD Basically, it's about an ancient, magical world threatened by something called the Scourge, which is distressingly vague for pretty much the entire book. To keep it hidden and safe, the inhabitants take what remains of the world, like bits of landscape and towns, and turn them into a tapestry. Humans are assigned to look after it and make sure no one finds it until it's safe, but soon, inevitably, people find out it exists. Cal and Suzanna are the protagonists, trying to protect the world and learn about it. Immacolata and Shadwell are two of the antagonists, trying to destroy/conquer it.
That's really the gist of it. There's a lot of soul-searching and a couple times the world becomes unwoven. The thing is, Clive makes a point to explain how broken up the world is, and how it's basically just random bits of a world thrown together in no particular order. That's kind of what the book is like XD It's one event after another, and a lot of the time it feels like there's no big tying force to all of it. It was written pretty well, though; I'd say the writing is better than Abarat. Some of the characters are intriguing, some are pretty bland, and the plot is a little muddled, but there are a lot of creative ideas in it. So it's similar to Abarat in those regards.

Admittedly, "I'm a coolatta" was the first thing I could think of, too. But the name "Immacolata" refers to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, which Clive Barker did deliberately with Immacolata's character. Another of her aliases is the "Black Madonna," and there is a lot of attention given to her specifically being a virgin.
