I read this book recently and it was wonderful! I loved the story. Has anyone else read this one? What are your thoughts on it?

I haven't read the book yet, but I am...as we speak....stalking it on Ebay. I've heard a lot of good things about it and I'm always happy to get my hands on another Clive book.

I loved it. Short but sweet. I hope that it eventually gets made into a movie.

Oooh! I adore this book! They're making it into a movie and I've got my hopes up about it. While I think the Abarat movie might disappoint me, I have a feeling The Thief of Always movie will be great. I adore the book, and I think my favorite character was Jive. I think he was more innocent than his brothers and sister; it seemed like he didn't understand what was happening when he met his fate.

I read ToA the day it came out years ago. It is a wonderful book. It was odd to read something that was supposed to be a "kids" book after Clive's other writings. I have heard they are making into an animated movie. Any word whether it is live action or animated?

It'll probably be animated or perhaps claymation, because all of the director's other works have been animated. I'm really excited because the writer is awesome. I mean... he's worked with Tim Burton before, so he should do justice to this book.

Tim Burton? Man... I like the claymation he does u know and the story concepts he has... but the lines and the altogether product I think is really lame. He could do so much better than he does. I would be really upset if Tim Burton made the movie lol.

I have read it and I adore it! The story is magical and terrible and it reminds me a little bit of Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. Maybe it's the overall feeling, maybe it's the fact that both horrors are praying on children...

Beautiful footage, great actors and all in all one of my favorite movies ever. <3 I think he would make this book into a wonderful movie.

Guillermo Del Toro would be great. He has a very interesting visual style as well that is usually dark and horryifying. He has a great imagination. Tim Burton started off as a production designer so his films are usally great to watch but if you are looking for depth in the plot or script he isn't very good at making a big enough effort in those departments. I would absolutely hate it though if the Abarat film was animated in any form. I really would want it to be live action.
I think if Toro and Speilberg worked together it would be amazing.
And when I read the Thief of Always I was also reminded of "Something Wicked This Way comes" which I really enjoy. Its so eerie and strange. Have you ever seen the movie? haha.

Del Toro would be, like, my dream director for a Thief of Always movie. But like Burton, I not certain his films are that deep. Pan's Labyrinth was, sure. Hellboy II: The Golden Army, though? Not so much. ...also, I don't want to open a can of worms or anything, right, it's just I know I'm not the only one who's noticed the similarities between Neil Gaiman's novel Coraline and Barker's TToA. They're contemporaries and I just can't bring myself to believe that Gaiman never read Barker's book and that it didn't influence his.

Read it a while ago. It was pretty good. (a.k.a. awesomely amazing. ) A movie is in progress as we type, but for when or in what format, I don't know.
