Ok, I love Prince Quiffin and I'm not all too sure why. We barely know anything about him, and where has he disapeared to? In fact what the heck happened to everyone after Boa's death? Where have they all gone? The only one we know about is Finnegan, an he appears to have gone insane.
But I have a questions, which might seem crazy and out of nowhere, but it's something I've been wondering about. The question is: Is Quiffin gay?
Personally I really want him to be, and I don't know why. I really want to write slash fiction about him, and I think it all started after reading Abaratian's fics.
Such a fuss was made over Boa marrying Finnegan, and the whole light and day coming together, that makes me think everyone was looking forward to the next generation. As if no one was expecting kids from Quiffin. I mean, why couldnt he marry a girl from the night island or something? It would explain some of the pressure on Boa, to make this day/night union.
He looks older than Boa in the paintings.... Come on Clive I want to know more!!
Any thoughts??

Yeah, he probably is gay. And true, about the marriage thing. Sorry, not much to say on the subject.

I don't know how it works in Abarat, but in the real world, males have always been first in line for the throne, even if they are younger than the princesses. However, not only is Quiffin male but he is older than Boa. So it really seems fishy to me that their father would expect Boa to do all of the work, so to speak. I've always just assumed he was gay because of this. I mean, we don't know much about him and we've never seen him face-to-face before, so Clive's never had a reason to state that Quiffin IS gay, but knowing Clive Barker, and judging the few facts we know, it would seem like that's a reasonable assumption.

I have never actually considered this, and now I am laughing. What Abaratian said makes sense, he did seem to just slip under the radar when it came to getting shipped out. Perhaps Clive is saving this for the next book? Plot twist FTW?
((Oh, and we could ask him via Twitter. Dunno if he will respond, but hey, it's worth a try. And we can post a link to here if you would like?))
