A question from the first chunk of this chapter - when the Carrions lived on Pyon, was Christopher still the Prince of Midnight? Or do you think at that point he was the Prince of Three O'clock in the Morning? lol - seriously though? Did Carrion not become the Midnight Lord until Mater Motley took him over to Gorgossium? In my opinion, Clive makes it sound as though the Carrions ruled over all of the Night Islands, whereas the Day Islands had multiple royal families. What makes me say this is throughout the books his uses of "the" versus "a" - Boa is always described as "A Princess of Day" whereas Christopher at one point is described as "the Night Prince" or something along those lines (I can't remember the exact quote - I think it was in the second book, though).
What do you guys think of Rojo Pixler's dream? He's obviously been making plenty of enemies throughout the Night Islands. But aside from the lights being an annoyance, it doesn't seem all that sinister. I think we're not supposed to like Pixler very much, but he likes bright, happy things and he provides everyone in Abarat with everything from furniture to medicine - and it's stuff that actually serves its purpose and works. Plus it is stuff that other companies can't provide - only Pixler has such an extensive knowledge of magic and science. He clearly has a monopoly throughout Abarat, but as of now I think most of our distrust of him comes from the negative view of monopolies we've had pounded into our brains in every economics class we've ever taken. I personally do think that Pixler is going to end up being a big baddie later on, but now that I think about it... why do I dislike him? We've never seen him act evil, cruel, or hateful. In a much later chapter, he proves himself to be a gentleman, and he isn't pretending because in the beginning he didn't know Candy was of any importance. But whatever... just another mystery...
By the way, how do you guys pronounce his first name? I've been in Spanish classes since fourth grade, so I can't help but say "Ro-ho" while I realize it's probably "Ro-joe".
