Hey Guys want your opinions on something thats really been bugging me! Hints for the new book suggest that Bill Quakenbush will find Wolfswinkel's hats and use them to become a church leader or something-which is all very well; but weren't the hats completley oblitorated by Letheo in DOMNOW? In fact, i belive that's what caused Wolfswinkels heart attack was it not? Opinions folks?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe they're zombie hats. No matter how many times you destroy them, there're always there... Spooky!

I heard he took the ripped up bits and made a coat out of them. Or his wife makes it for him, since I don't reckon Bill has much skill in the way of sewing...

I'm pretty sure red is right. Letheo ripped the hats up, but I think Barker said that Bill makes a shirt out of them.

I know this is an old thread, and the Abarat series has had dreadful continuity problems in general, but this detail is bothering me a lot. It's specifically stated that Letheo shreds the hats until they're little more than confetti. This happens deep inside the Wormwood, which then gets torn apart in the battle between Carrion and Mater Motley. And then what little remains is destroyed by the Izabella, sinks, and is carried back into the Abarat. Even if the little hat confetti somehow fell out of the ship during her destruction, how would Bill have come across all of the pieces in the wreckage, let alone been able to sew pieces that small into a shirt? I hate to say it, but it's continuity errors like this one that make me wonder if Barker hired several ghost writers with horrible communication skills to write his books.

Its funny that so many people have noticed this....I remember wanting to even WRITE to Clive Barker for a while to point out that it wasn't possible for Bill to get the hats because they were shredded.....on the wormwood..... which was not only destroyed, I think was on fire at one point, sunk and then was swept away. I think that makes us completely dedicated XP Im still not sure how this plot thread is going to work out though. I guess we just have to trust in Clive to weave it all together....

I know this is an old thread... That's not very good, is it? A thread about a piece of pre-release info for the third book being old? Really puts it in perspective just how long we've had to wait for this thing.... I don't know about the hats, I'll need to read that part again, but if Letheo slashed them up as much as I'm hearing he did, it could be a continuity error. Perhaps Bill only finds a few pieces of it, and sews them into an existing shirt? Perhaps he finds one, feels the magic in it and actively looks for the others, and only makes a shirt when he has enough of them? Either way, it's not going to be very good for those in Chickentown...This whole thing is especially interesting to me because it seems that Clive did not originally intend for it to happen at all. Once the series is said and done (I'll have one of my grandkids drive me to the bookstore to get the last book), I wonder how much of the grand arc will have been affected by this event? I hope Clive manages to fix this seeming continuity error. I wouldn't want there to be a black spot like this on the Abarat series...

Hahahahah God I hope its not that long. My running joke is for my friends to get me the whole set as a wedding present since hopefully it will be done by then.... Yeah I really hope you're right, I dont want a black spot like this either

Minor Spoiler Varning!
This is something that bothers me more than the magical Hats. How many siblings, brothers and sisters, did Carrion actually had?
In the second book, he tells us directly that he had 26 brothers and 1 sister, Nice and clear. But in the third book, on page 4, Zephario Carrion informs us that he had 23-24 children. "-had taken the infant and disappeared into day or night, perhaps in her madness to hide the one survivor of her twenty-three grandchildren...." (page 4)
Not only that, Clive Barker seems to forget that C Carrion only had one sister, not sisters.
"There are my brothers and SISTERS" (page 538)
Why Clive?!

Ah! Why didn't he just read his own book and figure out the facts! T_T I do have specific memories of the "one sister" thing. Because that was important. It's why "Zephario set the house on fire." There's another continuity error that I was thinking about but I think it's still to early to post here.

Something that I noticed was that in book 3 it says that Candy is 16, but I'm sure that in the last two it said that she was 15. So unless she had a birthday that wasn't mentioned I think we have another continuity error. Also, as long as we are talking about Candy's age I remember reading in an interview that by the end of the series she would be in her early 20s, but now i read that she will be 18 and a half.Anyone else recall this?

I do remember hearing that her age will change. And yeah, he will probably age her surreptitiously too. I guess he's just changing his mind about what her final age will be? 18 seems like a good age to be at the end of Abarat, because then she could go to college or something
