Begins: April 15th Chapter 11 - "The Card Players"
As of today, April 15th, discussion of the eleventh chapter of the first Abarat book begins. Sorry for posting it so late, it's practically the 16th, but all day my internet has been acting up. I'm working on getting it fixed; I don't really know what the problem is. Anyway...
Discussion of the next chapter will begin on April 22nd.

I'll start this time, since I have a few ramblings to share... ;D It seems to be a theme so far, with both the Johns and the Card Players that they are all seeing something odd in Candy. Mischief has already told his brothers that he thinks Candy is a magic user, so is that what the Card Players are thinking too? Or are they just interested in her because she's from the Hereafter? The Card Players, (Sorry can't remember which one now) also asks Candy whether she has called the Sea, which they then go on to say is forbidden to go to the Hereafter, and that everyone knows this. ... Why is it forbidden?

I think the way they look at her might be because they vaguely recognize her. Maybe they see some trace of Boa in her? They can't place it... like they don't look at her and think "Hey she looks like Boa" but maybe they look at her and think "she looks familiar" or "she looks like someone important" or something. You know what I mean? That's just always what I've thought.
I don't know why it's forbidden to go to Hereafter, but I'm curious as to how Mischief got there. He's just a thief, it must take some big arrangements to get there. Also, I recall someone saying that Hereafter was a myth sort of... correct me if I'm wrong. I know in an upcoming chapter the woman who takes Candy into her house says "Angels use dollars". However, she did know what a dollar was, so apparently people talk about Hereafter enough to know the details. I've always assumed Hereafter was like a legendary place. Like Atlanis. But the Sea-skippers know she comes from Hereafter immediately. That struck me as a bit odd.
I thought it was funny how the Johns reacted when the Sea-skippers said they were going to eat Candy, his "girlfriend".
I always love fish-men creatures. The Sea-skippers, Zoras from Legend of Zelda, Abe Sapien from Hellboy. I'm semi-obsessed with fish (the aquarium is my favorite place in the world). I really want to be a Sea-skipper!!
Also... I love Deaux-Deaux, he's definitely one of my favorite characters. Maybe in the top 5 somewhere.
