Has anyone seen Watchmen yet? I saw it the day it came out, and loved it so much I picked up the book the next week at the bookstore. I absolutely ate it up. Anyone else feel the same way?

I love Watchmen! I haven't seen the movie, but I read the comic book album several years ago and loved it to bits. *le sigh* I want to see the movie, I do, but I'm so afraid to be disappointed... there's so much awesome things in the story, and well... it's not the first time Hollywood destroyed a good story.

They didn't change a lot so much as they left a lot out. I thought the movie was pretty good, though, considering most super hero movies. I got me to read the book at least. When I read the book I was just... dumbfounded. It was SO good. Rorschach is definitely my favorite, I think.

That's good! Rorschack is awesome, I really felt for him. His whole story was so depressing... definitely one of my favorites. I enjoyed Ozymandias as well, although he should have had a sidekick or something to tell him when he was way off line.

He did have Bubastis, plus loads of people working under them, but unfortunately Bubastis can't talk and he never let the others in on the whole plot. I'm torn about Ozymandias; I liked him a lot but my conscience protests

I saw it and absolutely hated it. It was great visually but I was bored, depressed and thought it was a total failure in most aspects.... but I did get to talk to the casting director for an hour in her office cuz I have connections. It was awesome.

I haven't read the graphic novel for it.... I was going to ... but since I hated the movie so much I probably won't bother now.

Here's the thing about Watchmen:
1) It was written in the 1980s - so these ideas which were totally mind-blowing and out of the box back then aren't really that way anymore. However, there was no way to make the movie effectively back then. Viewers are now numb to these ideas, and fail to realize how revolutionary they were.
2) People (probably you as well, correct me if I'm wrong) went into Watchmen expecting a superhero movie. I did, too! But I was wrong - it's a dramatic mystery movie that happens to be about superheroes. It's also very deeply political, and forces viewers to question their morals, etc. So a lot of the negative reviews are probably coming from people who didn't get what they were expecting at all. (I didn't, but I was still pleased with it. Heck - one of my favorite movies is Pan's Labyrinth, so politics and morals in movies are right up my alley)
So I don't blame you for being disappointed. It was advertised as an action-packed superhero thriller, but it's really a movie about life and death, politics and morals, and human psychology.

I agree with Abaratian, if you expected a superhero movie then yeah, you would be disappointed. I haven't seen the trailer either yet, but I had no idea they were advertising it as a superhero movie, which really is the last thing it is. If anything it's a realistic superhero movie, if such a thing exists. People taking matters into their own hands and suffering the consequences, political twists, characters as flawed as anyone of us (and in some cases, a lot more. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Rorschack. And you, Comedian. Shame on you. I wonder if they had the guts to show every nutsty thing you did in the movie.)
Anyway, I'm sure they left a lot out. If you do pick up the book, I'm sure you won't get disappointed. It's not pretty, but it is beautiful.

There have been so many superhero movies recently that I havent paid any attention to the trailers for this film, although reading what you guys have written about it, it's sounding more appealing. Any film that people either love or hate is def worth watching. It's the films people just say, yeah it was alright, are the ones to avoid. ... Shall put seeing this film on my to-do list!

Yeah, definitely don't write it off as a superhero movie. The men and women in charge of advertising really failed on that one. If I hadn't known beforehand that Watchmen is on Time Magazine's "100 Best Novels of All Time" list, and hadn't already read half of the graphic novel to know that it's really not a superhero movie, I probably would have written it off as another Batman-Superman-Spiderman-Hulk-Catwoman-Daredevil type movie. That's not what this is at all. Munanna, is it bad that Rorschach and Comedian were my two favorite characters? hahahaha
