Do you think the characters of the Abarat are believeable? Do they remind you of anyone? Do you think their reactions and responses to things are relistic, typical, bizarre or stupid?

That's my favorite thing about Clive Barker's writing, actually. He throws in so much horror or fantasy and imagination, but at the same time the character are so realistic. He captures human emotion perfectly and is able to translate them into literature like almost no other authors can.

I think Candy is one of the most realistic characters I've read. She doesn't over-react like the main characters tend to do in other stories. I think Clive Barker does a wonderful job keeping his characters believable.

i like candy's dad. apparently he finds the hats of that evil midget that was trapped in the house guarded by those weird cats. once he puts the hats on he is no longer mr slob/drunk but drunk on power and he tells the people of chickentown what to do. i am afraid for chicken town. i mean being run by a drunk?....(shudders)
