No one's discussed their favorite poems from our beloved Abarat yet, so I'll start!
Two of my favorite pieces are "O Hamster Tree" from the first book (it is actually a song), and the poem at the end of the second book by Christopher Carrion.

I have two favorites. The Division of Hours, but also the opening poem -
I dreamed a limitless book, A book unbound, Its leaves scattered in fantastic abundance.
On every line there was a new horizon drawn. New heavens supposed, New states, new souls.
One of those souls, Dozing through some imagined afternoon, Dreamed these words; And needing a hand to set them down, Made mine.
I might have gotten some of the punctuation wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've memorized the words correctly. I want to get it, or at least the first stanza of it, tattooed somewhere on my body (I've become a tattoo addict!). However, Clive needs to finish the series first, because I'm certainly not getting a tattoo of it only to find out he's never going to finish the books. That would be the ultimate disappointment - cuz I'd be stuck with that reminder forever and ever.

I love tattoos! When you get it, would you post a picture of it so that we can admire it? Yeah, I agree, getting it while waiting for the series to end would be a bit risky.

I memorized the poem 'Here is a list of fearful things' because I was bored. It was surprisingly easy, I think because of the rhyming words. I want to memorize more. Maybe I should memorize more useful things, like my social security number ;>_>

I am seconding, "Nothing" from Memories of the World's End near the beginning of the second book. That one stuck with me, mainly because of the sadness of it and the despair. That even God would find nothing worth saving from the world he created, not even himself. No wonder Carrion loves this one. Although perhaps he should alternate it with a little O Hamster Tree, if he can stand it. After a battle lasting many days The Devil won, And he said to God (Who had been his maker): "Lord, We about to witness the unmaking of Creation By my hand. I would not wish you to think me cruel, So I beg you, take three things From this world before I destroy it. Three things, and then the rest will be wiped away."
God throught for a little time. And at last He said: "No, there is nothing." The Devil was surprised. "No even you, Lord?" he said. And God said: "No. Not even me."

I second(or is it third?) "Nothing". I've memorized it. It's just so sad, but still somehow peaceful, ya know? Even though I'm an atheist, I can still believe that a god could give up gracefully, without complaing, or saying 'no fair'. There aren't a lot of humans I know who could do that. It's just a sad, beautiful poem.
Nothing After a battle lasting many ages, The Devil won, And he said to God (who had been his maker): "Lord, We are about to witness the unmaking of Creation By my hand. I would not wish you to think me cruel, So I beg you, take three things From this world before I destroy it. Three things, and then the rest will be Wiped away."
God thought for a little time. And at last He said: "No, there is nothing." The Devil was surprised. "Not even you, Lord?" he said. And God said: "No. Not even me."
*sniffles* Ta-da. All done.

A friend and I got into the habit of singing the hamster tree, the "oh Little one" and "holian" (sp?) song while we waited for the bus, and friends who hadn't read the book eventually picked them up.

I don't think I have 1 favorite poem. One thing that really sticks in my mind though isn't really a poem I suppose, but one of the spells Malingo uses, in Book 2: "Come, unloving stuff. Take life, Take life! From this- And this! Take life!" I really like that. It sounds very momentous to me, and fascinating. And I really like this from the 3rd book: "If prisons- O! -therefore liberty. It's started. If seas- See it? -therefore shores. Hear it? If silence, Yes! Therefore song." That part totally swept me away, I was so in the moment with everything that was happening. I'm really inspired by most of the poetry! I love that Clive Barker adds this element to the books.
