Boa - What lies beneath the sweet outer shell?

More sweet outer shell? A warm, gooey center? Or something bitter? Any thoughts on Princess Boa as a person?

This is something I've spent a fair bit of time thinking about. (Disclaimer: I am in no way responsible for my own insanity and obsessiveness.) I personally believe that nobody can be so good and perfect all the time. Firstly, you must think about her behavior toward Carrion. Sure, she's got every reason to hate him and fear him, but if she was really as perfect as everyone says, she'd probably be nicer after 15 years, no? Especially since she likely knows him better than anyone, and can understand where all his selfish insanity comes from. Also, Barker said something about her not meaning the best for Candy. I personally believe she has something of selfish streak in her that rivals Carrion's. Spoiled, beloved little princess. She wants to be back with Finnegan, and I can see her doing just about anything to achieve that. Also, we've never heard anything about her besides what everyone else says, and the little bits of her near the end of book 2. It isn't like with Pixler or Carrion where you have proof of their personality types.

In any case, I could be totally insane or I could be right. What do you alls think?

Boa is remembered as some sort of saint. The perfect girl, wonderful everything, blah blah blah. I don't believe we are overly cynical when this sounds like a little too much.

But then again, really all we know about her is from others. And there is that thing that everyone does when you remember the good things about a person when they die. And she sure died horribly.

But really, who knows. Maybe she was the angel she seems.

Or we could be being built up for a fall. Maybe Boa is really in league with Mater Motley and fooled everyone else. Now that would be funny.

I don't think that Boa did anything that bad, like joining up with Mater Motley. But I wouldn't be surprised if her inner conversations with Candy revealed a darker side. I don't think she's evil, not at all, but I have a feeling that she's going to have some huge conflicts with Candy that will make us dislike her, like dealing with relationships or making decisions. After all, Candy should be in charge, but now that Boa is speaking up inside of her, she's going to want to do things her way.

I sooo agree with you enigmaticpoet! I think Boa really is secretly selfish and jealous of Candy having a body. I think Boa is going to try to find Finnegan with Candy's body and then try to kill her off for good.

You're the perfect, beloved princess, trapped inside the body of a regular girl. You obviously think you know better how to do things and what to do. And your old boyfriend's hanging around. You're finally getting to have a say on how things are run. I think Boa's gonna start getting really pushy to get her way, and she and Candy will have a big falling out that will end with one trying to get rid of the other. Yep, I think she's gonna start looking more and more like a spoiled brat as time goes on. And as we know, spoiled brats can get very vicious...

I have nothing giant against Boa. I think she probably was a kind and gentle person when she was alive, and those characteristics are what people remembered of her. Nothing I've read about her makes me think of her as a spoiled brat. But I can imagine she was freaked out when she started receiving letters of luuurv from Carrion. If I had to put myself in her dainty little shoes:

I'm princess sunshine. I'm kind and make people happy. Not that hard, since I'm a princess and I don't have to work for anything. Hey, a letter... omg, prince of darkness luvs me! He doesn't look sunshiney at all! Ok. Um. Ok. If I'm really, really diplomatic maybe he won't get pissed and destroy the world... okay... d**n... he's not getting the hint... how the hell am I supposed to get the point across without breaking is heart? *fumbles fumbles FAILS and DIES* </princess sunshine>

IMHO there was no way Boa could have let him down gently enough for him not to go haywire and kill her. I think 'leading him on' was probably more like desperate diplomacy. But then, I would have cheerfully accepted and climbed his fishbowl/neckbrace like a cartoon kitten. ;D

BUT if it turns out she's got an evil plot going on to kill Candy and take her body to return to Finnegan I'll be more than happy! I'm kind of hoping for it, actually... overly kind characters annoy me.

I do sort of foresee some sort of problem arising between Candy and Boa in the future. Yeah, Boa is going to want to get back with Finnegan but that probably wont be what Candy wants. Then we could have the whole "stop using my body to get what you want" sort of deal. And maybe the "I never asked for this" argument. Cuz that's true, she never asked/chose to accept Boa's spirit in her body. That choice was sort of made for her.

OMG I HAVE THE ANSWER

Boa will try to kick Candy out of the body in order to be with Finnegan/be in charge, which would result in Candy never coming back.
Of course that won't happen, so Candy will have to kick Boa out of the body or something. Then Carrion will be like, "OMG BOA IS SO MEAN? O HAI THAR CANDY"
Then lurvz will ensue.

One of the best things Ive ever read is Ten Million Stars, (which I think is by the same Red Stockings who hangs out around here right?) Anyway, it is exactly what I would have loved to happen, and its exactly what I think of Boa. I think shes more of a parasite than a friend, and once Finnegan finds her again....Candy's gonna no longer have control.

I am not sure about boa, everyone said she was soo good, but is she really? I don't really think so, she obviously hates carrion(sure he killed her but she almost deserved it) and wants candy to fall in love with finnegan(end of book 2 was a dead give away) I don't think she can be trusted.
